Reach Shimla By Air
First of the options to reach Shimla is byair. We believe that this is the safest and fastest ways to reach Shimla. As we mentioned earlier, Shimla is connected by air too. The city has its own airport named as Shimla Airport or Jubbarhatti Airport. This airport is not exactly inside the city as it is 20kms away from Shimla but you can reach the city very easily from Airport by taxi.
If you are looking to travel by Air, you will want to know about flights and their frequency too. So, there are as many as 5 flights operating every week from Delhi to Shimla. This means that you can get to Delhi from any part of India(or the world) and catch a flight to Shimla on any given day of the week.
Reach Shimla by Road
If time is not the concern for you and you love nature, you must travel Shimla by road. Now, this travel can be via your personal car or with the help of State transport such as Taxis, Buses etc. If you have never driven on hilly roads, it is recommended to reach Shimla in a private or state bus or taxi. This way, you can enjoy the scenic beauty of the mountains and reach the city safe and sound.
You can take any bus or taxi, private or state-owned easily. For private buses and taxis, you need to go to local travel agency and book a bus/taxi from there. For state-owned transport, you can go to your nearest Bus Station and enquire about the next bus to Shimla.
Reach Shimla by Train
Shimla is connected to the rest of India via rails as well. The nearest railway station to Shimla is the Kalka Railway Station. However, this railway station is not exactly that close to Shimla as you need to take a taxi from Kalka Railway Station to Shimla. The distance between Kalka and Shimla is 90+ km so you need to travel that destination byroad.
Even though Travelling by Train takes a lot of time to reach Shimla, it is one of the safest and cheapest options. All you need to do is go to the IRCTC website, check for train timings to Kalka Station from Delhi and book your tickets. These tickets are generally much cheaper than what you need to pay for flight tickets or even private bus/taxi.
